Anne Arundel's $100-a-ton trailer rule, explained
Anne Arundel County charges $100 per ton for waste delivered in a rental truck, rental trailer or double-axle trailer at the Millersville Landfill, the same rate as commercial waste. Stumps and concrete are $200 per ton. A level 7x14 dump trailer of mixed debris weighs about 1.5 to 1.7 tons, so expect roughly $150 to $175 at the scale.
Key takeaways
- $100/ton for rental and double-axle trailer loads; $200/ton for stumps and concrete.
- County recycling centers won't accept rental or double-axle trailer loads at all.
- Millersville is open Mon to Sat, 8am to 4pm; closed Sunday.
- Cash, checks payable to AACO, Visa, Mastercard and Discover are accepted.
- Out-of-county waste isn't allowed.
What exactly is the rule?
Anne Arundel's fee schedule charges $100 per ton for waste that arrives in a rental truck or trailer, a double-axle trailer, or a dump, flatbed, stake-body or box truck.
That's the same rate the county charges commercial business waste. By comparison, ordinary residential waste not covered by another listing is free. So the vehicle you arrive in can decide whether you pay. Under County Code § 13-4-107, these loads are charged under the fee schedule.
| Anne Arundel disposal charge | Rate |
|---|---|
| Rental trucks/trailers, double-axle trailers, dump, flatbed, stake and box trucks | $100/ton |
| Commercial business solid waste | $100/ton |
| Stumps, concrete, boats over 20 ft, house trailers | $200/ton |
| Tires by the ton | $237.50/ton |
| Residential solid waste not otherwise listed | No charge |
Landfill fees, hours and rules are set by each county or site and can change without notice. We don't control them; call the site before you go.
In plain terms: the same pile of debris can be free in the bed of your own pickup and cost $100 a ton in a rented trailer. The county prices by vehicle type, not just by material. Budget the scale fee into the job from the start, and it won't surprise you at the gate.
Does it apply to my trailer?
If it's a rental, yes. If it has two axles, yes. Both of our dump trailers are rentals, so every IronBay load at Millersville pays by the ton.
If you own a single-axle trailer, the rule as written doesn't name it, but you may still be weighed and charged depending on what's in it. Call the county's customer service at (410) 222-6108 before you go.
The county also limits what comes in from outside. Its code bars disposal of solid waste generated outside Anne Arundel, so a Howard County kitchen demo can't go to Millersville just because it's closer. Take it to Howard County's Alpha Ridge instead.

Rent a dump trailerWhat will my load cost?
Weight times $100. A level 7x14 of mixed debris is about $150 to $175; a load of concrete or stumps doubles the rate.
| Example load | Approx. weight | Rate | Approx. fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6x12, loose brush (4.44 yd³ at 127 lb/yd³) | About 560 lb | $100/ton | About $28 |
| 7x14, mixed C&D (7.17 yd³ at 417 to 484 lb/yd³) | 1.5 to 1.7 tons | $100/ton | About $149 to $174 |
| 7x14, shingles, 18 squares (about 7.2 yd³ at 731 lb/yd³) | About 2.6 tons | $100/ton | About $263 |
| Concrete, 3 tons | 3 tons | $200/ton | $600 |
Examples only; the scale decides. Heavy loads like concrete hit our trailers' payload limits fast, so check the load calculator before you fill one.
How does Millersville compare with nearby sites?
For mixed debris, Millersville's $100 a ton is in the middle of the pack for Central Maryland, but you have to dump in the county the waste came from.
| Site | Rate for trailer loads | Key rule |
|---|---|---|
| Anne Arundel, Millersville | $100/ton; stumps and concrete $200/ton | Mon to Sat 8am to 4pm |
| Howard, Alpha Ridge | C&D $106/ton, +2.45% card fee | Trailer/rental counts as commercial; Howard waste only |
| Baltimore County, Eastern Sanitary | $125/ton, $10 min | Small C&D quantities only |
| Baltimore City, Quarantine Rd | $135/ton | |
| Carroll, Northern Landfill | C&D $85/ton, $8 min | Refuses concrete over 6" and stumps |
| Baltimore Recycling Center (private, Edison Hwy) | $93/ton, 1-ton min | Any county |

If you're working near a county line, the deciding factor is where the debris was generated, not which site is closest. Our Anne Arundel dump guide has the county details in one place.
Can I use a recycling center instead?
No. Anne Arundel's Northern, Central and Southern recycling centers won't accept waste delivered in a rental vehicle, rental trailer or double-axle trailer.
The centers are set up for residents in personal vehicles. They check an Anne Arundel driver's license and vehicle registration. With a rental trailer, Millersville is your county option.
That catches people who are used to dropping off yard waste or recyclables in the family SUV. The same items in a rented trailer go to the landfill scale instead. If you only have a few bags of recyclables, keep them out of the trailer and drop them off separately in your own car.
How does a Millersville visit work?

When does Return It Loaded make sense?
When the landfill is closed, you're out of time, or you'd rather not tow a loaded trailer to Severn yourself.
With Return It Loaded, you bring the trailer back full and we dump it for the county scale price plus $49. A 7x14 for a day is $165 ($174.90 with tax). Delivery to Anne Arundel addresses is $125 each way ($132.50 with tax). Full steps are on how it works.
