Dumpster or dump trailer? Run your job's real numbers.
For a one-day job, a dump trailer is often $90–200 cheaper than a 15-yard dumpster, and the debris is gone the same day. For a big or slow job, a dumpster can win. Put in your job and we'll show you which.

Example: one-day cleanout, 1.6 tons of mixed debris
Every row uses the 7x14 day rate with tax ($174.90). The 15-yard dumpster benchmark is $350–685 in Columbia.

How big is a dump trailer, really?
Our 7x14 holds 7.17 cubic yards with its 2-ft sides. That's about a 10-yard dumpster, not a 15. If your job is bigger, you'll make two trips. Two trips still often beat a dumpster for a weekend demo, but by the third, a dumpster usually wins.
When the trailer wins
- One- or two-day jobs. Load it, dump it, done. Nothing sits in your driveway for a week.
- Heavy debris. You pay the scale for what you actually haul, not a flat allowance plus overage.
- Tight driveways and HOAs. The trailer leaves the same day. No roll-off truck, no plywood under the wheels.
- You want control. Pick up at 7am, dump by 3pm, on your schedule.
When a dumpster wins
- Slow jobs. If you'll load over a week or two, a dumpster in the driveway is easier.
- Three or more loads. Each trip is another drive and another weigh-in.
- No truck that can tow it. A loaded 7x14 needs a ¾-ton or larger. Delivery helps, but it adds $150 in Howard.
- Sunday work. No landfill near us opens Sunday, so a Saturday-afternoon load sits until Monday unless you add Return It Loaded.
What landfills charge for a trailer load
Every county around us weighs a rented tandem trailer and charges by the ton. There are no free resident visits with one. Howard treats it as a commercial load: a $40 yearly permit and $106 a ton for construction debris. Anne Arundel charges $100 a ton for rental and double-axle trailer loads. Most county sites take only their own residents' waste. The full rules are in our county guides.
The tow catch
A loaded 14K dump puts 1,400–2,100 lb on your hitch. Most half-ton trucks aren't rated for that without weight distribution. Check yours before you book. If it doesn't fit, rent the 6x12 for lighter loads or have us deliver.
The easy option: Return It Loaded
Bring the trailer back full and we take it to the scale for the county price plus $49. Or have it delivered, load it in your driveway, and we haul it away.

What size dumpster equals a 7x14 dump trailer?

In Howard County, yes: Alpha Ridge treats trailer loads as commercial and requires a $40 yearly permit. Anne Arundel charges by the ton with no separate permit listed.
What can't go in?
Hazardous waste, tires, paint, batteries and appliances with refrigerant are restricted at most sites. Some refuse soil, large concrete or stumps. Check your county guide.
